Accounts payable

Accounts payable (AP) is money owed by a business to its suppliers shown as a liability on a company's balance sheet. It is distinct from notes payable liabilities, which are debts created by formal legal instrument documents. An accounts payable department's main responsibility is to process and review transactions between the company and its suppliers and to make sure that all outstanding invoices from their suppliers are approved, processed, and paid. The accounts payable process starts with collecting supply requirements from within the organization and seeking quotes from vendors for the items required. Once the deal is negotiated, purchase orders are prepared and sent. The goods delivered are inspected upon arrival and the invoice received is routed for approvals. Processing an invoice includes recording important data from the invoice and inputting it into the company's financial, or bookkeeping, system. After this is accomplished, the invoices must go through the company's respective business process in order to be paid.

Examples of use of interest payable
1. Theoretically, the grant would amount to at least 30% of the total interest payable on the mortgage.
2. After the single–notch downgrade, TMI raised interest payable to its bondholders from 5.8% to 7.18%. It added more collateral and continued to repurchase bonds.
3. The report said store card statements should look more like their credit card counterparts, showing the interest payable the next month, the level of fees and charges, and charges for insurance bought to cover monthly payments.
4. But if the rate was to rise by 6 percent to 14.' percent, the same debt would take 14 years and three months to repay, and accrue interest of 731.6' pounds. «A 6 percent interest rise more than doubles the interest payable and extends the term of repayment by a whopping two years 11 months,» said Taylor.
5. But today only 30 percent of lenders require a monthly repayment of that proportion or greater. «Extending debt over a longer term and increasing the interest payable does not seem a responsible approach to lending, especially in the current climate of rising debt, defaults and arrears,» added Taylor.
